Where there is a will there is a way. Reports from the watchdog group “Human Rights Watch” has released reports that the Bush Administration and the C.I.A has since 9-11, expedited at least fourteen alleged terror suspects to Jordan for interrogation, all of which have yet to be formally charged with any crime. Why is the United States transporting prisoners to Jordan? It seems to be a trend in American government to find ways around the truth. Simply put, if the United States hires out it’s torture to Jordan then it’s Jordan who has the blood on their hands.
To torture known terrorists for information is one thing, but I am curious to know exactly how many lives have been ruined forever in vain at Guantanamo Bay, Jordan and other places like this. Here, smuggled out in a roll of paper no larger than the head of a pin are the startling words of Ali al-Hajj al-Sharqawi. He claims that the interrogators beat him “in a way that does not know any limits.” and that “They threatened [him] with electricity, with snakes and dogs .... [They said] we’ll make you see death .... They threatened to rape me.” and yet still the Human Rights Watch says that “The Bush administration claims that it has not transferred people to foreign custody for abusive interrogation,” said Joanne Mariner, terrorism and counter terrorism director at Human Rights Watch. “But we’ve documented more than a dozen cases in which prisoners were sent to Jordan for torture.”
I suppose the question isn’t whether or not the Bush Administration continues to torture prisoners but why it is being tolerated, if you hire a hit man is it still murder? I’m not sure what we as citizens can do about matters this secretive and so well protected but I do know that I am appalled by it. Is torture the answer?
